Royal Sugar SA participated in the General Assembly of the European Association of Sugar Traders (ASSUC), which took place at the headquarters of the Union in Brussels on 28 June 2017.Royal Sugar SA participated in the General Assembly of the European Association of Sugar Traders (ASSUC), which took place at the headquarters of the Union in Brussels on 28 June 2017.ASSUC was founded in 1959 and is the official body representing European sugar traders both in the European Commission and in all European institutions and international organizations.ASSUC consists of more than 60 sugar trading companies (importers, exporters, dealers, brokers and distributors) from all EU countries as well as from affiliated members in third countries.
The ASSUC's mission is to:
• Monitor EU legislation and political developments in the areas related to our members (ie international trade, agricultural policy, the internal market, enlargement and customs development).
• Ensure a permanent link with the European Institutions and other European trade associations in the agri-food sector.
• Collecting and distributing information on issues relating to the agri-food sector, and in particular on sugar trade.
• Strategic counseling and co-ordination of pressure activities. Adoption of common positions in the name of sugar trade
• Collaboration with various representatives of Member States, third countries and international organizations.Greece is represented in ASSUC exclusively by Royal Sugar SA. The participation of Royal Sugar SA in ASSUC provides it with the ability to receive qualitative information, advice and early warning of regulatory developments in the EU that may affect the trade in sugar.
• Exchange of views and expertise and development of common positions with other ASSUC members
• Ability to inform members about developments in the Greek sugar market
• Ability to influence European decision making through lobbying activities of ASSUC.
Royal Sugar SA represented the Founder and Managing Director Mr. Christos Karathanassis and the Managing Director of Development, Elli Limpou.The open session focused on the future of the EU sugar market after 2017, in the context of quota termination from 1 October 2017, the renewed prospects of Mercosur and the start of the Brexit process. There followed a reception and dinner at Grand Place: 'La maison du Cygne' Grand Place.
